Alum: Keanine Griggs, Villanova University Class of 2018
Current Role: Senior Manager of Marketing Strategy for HBO + Max Originals Programming | Warner Bros Discovery
Area of Study: Communication
Immersion Program: Villanova on Set
There is not a doubt a doubt in my mind that I would not be in the position I am today without the Villanova On Set program. I’ve worked on countless of award winning and culturally shaking HBO programs (including The Last of Us, The White Lotus, A Black Lady Sketch Show, etc) and spearheaded strategic campaigns for various documentaries, and none of that would not be possible if I did not decide to go to LA during Spring Break of my senior year to be a part of Villanova On Set.
The program is a great way to get an initial feel of the entertainment industry at large (even if you don’t want to be in it) and is the epitome of “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” It gives you the opportunity to connect with various alums and entertainment insiders. Without [program leader and assistant professor] Hezekiah Lewis, I would have never heard of the program. Without the program, I would have never met Jerry DiCanio (’79), who graciously made sure that I got an interview with the prestigious NBC Page Program. Without the Page Program, I would not have connected with a friend who would end up referring me to HBO folks. Without HBO, I don’t know where I’d be right now. I am a firm believer that hard work is the reason I’ve been fortunate in my career, but a little help from some people goes a long way, and Villanova On Set is a great way to meet the right “some people.”
