Villanova’s Summer Success Program for Graduate Students & Grad School-bound Undergraduates!

Join Villanova’s Summer Success Support Program!

Students enrolled in this summer program will learn how to identify and apply for multiyear and yearlong opportunities. The workshop will cover a multitude of fellowships and grants, including—but not limited to—those from the AAUW, Boren, Fulbright, Mellon, NASA, and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Our program is useful for all levels of students (and alumni) planning applications to graduate school, the NSF, Fulbright, and other awards. Participants will be shown how to identify and apply for multiyear and yearlong opportunities, and with our assistance, will complete an application for Fulbright, the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF), another major award, and/or graduate school.

Dr. Michael T. Westrate and his teams have helped more than 500 students win Fulbright, the NSF-GRF, and other prestigious major grants and fellowships—including many students with GPAs under 3.0. You have a great shot at this, too!

The five sessions are each 3-4 hours long and will be delivered live, in person, with Zoom attendance allow (put in-person attendance is very much preferred). Snacks and drinks will be provided for participants at no cost. Part of the program will be dedicated to workshopping drafts and receiving feedback on them in breakout groups. This is a great chance to learn and network with other students – across colleges and disciplines – in all academic fields!

By the end of the program, participants will complete a solid draft of the materials required for their respective fellowship/grad school applications. There will include a Personal (background & future goals) Statement and a Statement of Purpose/Research Statement. In addition, students will be introduced to a number of sources for identifying other funding opportunities and to general best practices in grant proposal preparation and grad school applications.
