Wildcat Alumni Spotlight (Aly Sivinski): “My favorite part of being an ED nurse is how dynamic it is!”

Alumna: Aly Sivinski

Graduation Year: 2025

Employer and Unit: Bridgeport Hospital, Emergency Department

Role: Registered Nurse

Q: What are some of your primary job responsibilities?

My job responsibilities include assessing and triaging patients, providing critical care interventions such as medications/wound care/IV’s/medical tube placements, providing immediate care in order to stabilize a patient who is experiencing a life threatening injury or illness, and working closely with other healthcare providers in order to provide complete care. Overall, I provide compassionate patient centered care.

Q: What is the most exciting part of your role?

My favorite part about being an ED nurse is how dynamic it is! Every shift I get a new set of patients with all different diagnoses. There is never one day that is the same as the other, so I am always learning something new. In the ED, my patients can span from those sick with the flu to someone who is having a heart attack to someone who was in a car accident, which keeps me on my toes!

Q: Did you learn anything from your experiences at Villanova?

Villanova places such a strong emphasis on student involvement in clubs and I have carried this with me to my job in the ED. I was extremely involved in our Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness club which heavily influenced me to work in an emergency department and pursue the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certification. There is always a committee or council at my hospital that you can be involved in, whether it’s nursing based or even just the hospital softball league. Being involved at work has made it so much easier to make friends and further my career, and I have Villanova to thank for my motivation to do that!

Q: How did you land your job?

Networking! I worked in the same health system as an extern the summer going into my senior year, which helped a ton. Additionally, the Career Center events and fairs are a great way of getting your foot in the door at hospitals. During an interview, I had a recruiter remember speaking to me at the Career Fair!

Q: Any other advice for future Villanovans?

Being a Nova Nurse carries a ton of weight at SO many hospitals! The chances of a Nova grad already working at the hospital or even the unit you are applying to is so high. Every graduated Nova nurse I have ever spoken to has been more than happy to help out in the application process.
