Q: Can you tell us more about the unit you worked on?

I worked 4 days per week at Main Line Health Home Care & Hospice Department, and 1 day online with the Health Recovery Solutions team. Health Recovery Solutions works with hospitals, insurance companies, and more to deliver a platform that reduces readmissions and takes care of high-risk patients post-discharge.
Overall, I was deploying and educating patients who use remote patient monitoring (RPM) devices. We worked to improve outcomes with patients by updating existing care plans to be more clinically relevant and creating education handout tools. I visited patients and spoke to them about best practices regarding disease processes in HF, COPD, and diabetes.

Q: What excited you most about your role?

It was really amazing to be able to combine my love for technology with my love for nursing and more specifically, the patient-facing side of nursing. I loved being able to interact with patients and help teach them how to manage their disease process on their own. I also loved being able to sit in with the Health Recovery Solutions team to see what jobs nurses can have that don’t involve interacting with patients on a daily basis!

Q: Name a few things you learned from the internship experience.

Number one: Meet a patient where they are at! As much as you have goals for them, you need to work with them and play to their strengths.
Number two: Nurses truly have the ability to have all kinds of roles. It is not just limited to being in the hospital!
