The Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) requests one intern for the summer of 2025. Potential candidates should be available for 37.5 hours per week. Up to five days per week during the summer period. The ideal candidate will demonstrate interest in subjects generally related to community and economic development.

OCED expects that the new intern’s primary charge will be to assist with ongoing work on multimodal access to tourist destinations in Greater Philadelphia, including data analysis and graphic design tasks associated with the America250 semi-quincentennial celebrations, as well as providing general support to the work of the Economic Development District. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary related to downtowns, main streets, and retail districts; immigration; and digital access.

Candidates who are detail-oriented with a keen interest in research and data gathering, have strong analytical skills, and are familiar with the Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite are encouraged to apply. Individuals who can demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, including Pivot Tables), GIS, and other data analytics tools are particularly attractive to the department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist professional staff with data collection and analysis;
  • Conduct and synthesize research; and
  • Generate text, tables, and maps to potentially be used in planning reports and memos as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, and other data analysis tools is preferred
  • Passion for research, and data gathering and analysis
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and problem solve
  • Knowledge of ACS and other publicly available data sources
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to work independently, including both in person and remotely as necessary, as well as in teams
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, general regional planning, and community and economic development
  • Excellent writing, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Basic knowledge of the Greater Philadelphia area is desired

Availability

Ability to start on June 3rd, 2025 is preferred. This is a hybrid, full-time position requiring a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.

Compensation

Interns currently pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s degree will be paid $17 per hour. Those currently pursuing or holding a Master’s degree will receive $20 per hour. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Training

Must have completed at least ONE YEAR of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master’s, or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in planning.
