Job Description

This position will support multimodal transportation planning projects in the Office of Mobility Analysis and Design. The selected candidate will learn about the various aspects of transportation planning at DVRPC while making meaningful contributions to current projects. This position will assist with multimodal transportation projects, developing concept designs, report writing, and synthesizing public and stakeholder input. Other tasks may include collecting and analyzing data (roadway geometry, traffic characteristics, demographic information, etc.), and composing maps, charts, and other visuals to communicate findings to stakeholders and the public. Close supervision is provided by a supervisor who assigns tasks, gives preliminary instructions, and reviews work in process and upon completion for quality and adherence to established standards. This kind of work requires strong research skills, an affinity for quantitative methods, and a strong interest in transportation planning.

Responsibilities

  • Create and/or refine concept plans for proposed transportation recommendations using Remix, Illustrator, and ArcGIS.
  • Develop maps and graphics, and contribute writing to presentations and reports.
  • May assist in the collection of data, including conducting field work.
  • May assist with community outreach.
  • Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

  • Strong and demonstrated interest in transportation planning.
  • Effective research and analysis skills, including the ability to evaluate quantitative and qualitative data to apply to transportation projects.
  • Ability to present results of research and analyses in clear and concise written and graphic form.
  • Experience engaging with the public in various settings is preferred.
  • Experience using Excel to analyze and visualize data is preferred.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, and Remix is preferred.

Availability

The ability to start on June 2nd, 2025 is preferred. This is a hybrid, full-time position requiring a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.

Compensation

Interns currently pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s degree will be paid $17 per hour. Those currently pursuing or holding a Master’s degree will receive $20 per hour. Students with work-study funding are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Training

  • Must have completed at least One Year at an undergraduate Urban Planning or Engineering program; or
  • One year in a Master’s degree program; or
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training; and
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in the transportation planning or engineering field.
