Modern Mechanical Contractors is part of three growing construction trade companies based in Franklin, Tennessee. We are a small, hands-on organization managing substantial active work, including multimillion-dollar construction projects, and we are building the accounting and operational structure needed to support continued growth.

We are seeking a bright, highly motivated accounting graduate or early-career accountant with strong fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to learn quickly.

This is not a traditional entry-level position where every task and process is already documented. The person hired will receive guidance on our companies, projects, structure, current accounting setup, and ERP system. However, they must be capable of researching unfamiliar issues, asking intelligent questions, identifying the correct accounting treatment, and taking ownership as they gain their footing.

Accounting is the primary responsibility. Business, project, and office administration are secondary.

Responsibilities include:

  • AP and AR support and management
  • Bank and credit-card reconciliations
  • Journal entries and general-ledger maintenance
  • Payroll support
  • Month-end accounting support
  • Job costing and project-budget tracking
  • ERP data entry, cleanup, and process improvement
  • Vendor records, W-9s, COIs, and audit documentation
  • Financial reporting and discrepancy review
  • Helping establish procedures for future accounting and administrative staff
  • Learning and applying construction-accounting concepts such as WIP, percentage-of-completion, retainage, pay applications, and project-cost reporting
  • Researching unfamiliar accounting issues and confirming the proper treatment before moving forward

Ideal candidate:

  • Degree in Accounting or a closely related field
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and accrual accounting
  • Internship, bookkeeping, staff-accounting, or finance experience preferred
  • Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills
  • Comfortable learning new accounting and ERP systems
  • Organized, accurate, self-starting, and highly dependable
  • Able to work independently without waiting for every step to be assigned
  • Willing to research unfamiliar issues and verify the correct accounting treatment
  • Able to step into incomplete or disorganized processes and help build structure
  • Interested in growing into greater accounting and financial leadership over time

Construction accounting experience is preferred but not required. The right person must have strong accounting fundamentals and the ability to independently learn and apply project-based accounting concepts. We will introduce them to our projects, documents, workflows, and current challenges, but we are not hiring someone who needs accounting taught from the ground up.

Position details:

  • Full-time and on-site in our Franklin, TN office
  • Monday–Friday, generally 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Compensation based on aptitude, experience, and ingenuity
  • Paid time off that increases with tenure
  • Long-term growth and potential performance-based opportunities for exceptional contributors
