Scope of Work: As an HVAC Controls Design Engineer you are responsible for delivering a complete control system design based on contract documents (e.g. plans & specifications) or self-developed design/build scope of work. Your design is the operational foundation for our controls contracting business: installation, programming, system integration, functional testing, commissioning, owner-training for a building automation system.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing or refining an accurate scope of work for a project
  • Developing and writing appropriate control sequences and coordination with programmers for quality control
  • Design control panel layout for fabrication
  • Selecting and specifying appropriate components required for proper operation
  • Develop a project bill of materials for project cost estimate
  • Create submittal documents with detailed schematics, sequences of operation, wiring diagrams, panel layouts and details
  • Provide technical support to field engineers for installation, functional testing and graphic commissioning
  • Ensure all controls systems comply with industry standards, codes, and regulations
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in HVAC controls technologies and industry best practices
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure high standards of workmanship
  • Understand project scope and execute duties in timeline required
  • All other duties assigned

Qualifications + Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on practical solutions that exceed client expectations
  • Excellent people skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding environment
  • Working knowledge using Microsoft 365 suite + Visio + Bluebeam + Niagara Workbench

Work Environment: Thermosystems LLC main office is in Elmhurst, IL. Main warehouse is in Romeoville, IL. Shared workspace is in Chicago, IL. Field work with exposure to various working conditions, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and outdoor settings with regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols in commercial buildings within Chicagoland (k-12 Schools, Medical Office Buildings/Hospitals, Institutional, etc.).
