The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District, Resource Management, is looking for an Accountant for their office in Tulsa, OK. The successful candidate will have a minimum 3.00 GPA, excellent research and accounting skills, and an interest in public service. Applicants must have completed four years of college credit and obtained a bachelors in Business Administration to include at least 24 hours of accounting credit is required to qualify. Up to 6 hours of business law counts towards the 24-credit hour requirement.
The Finance and Accounting Branch is a busy and collegial office with six civilian accountants, one civilian pay technician, and one civilian financial specialist who advise and support the District Commander (an Army Colonel, O-6) and approximately 800 civilian employees. The Tulsa District is fully executing and tasked with accomplishing all USACE missions within its area of responsibility. The Tulsa District is within the Southwestern Division which includes Little Rock, Fort Worth and Galveston. The student selected for this position will assist accountants in a diverse array of practice areas such as military and civil construction in process, hydropower accounting, collections and the Corps of Engineers financial system and may be afforded opportunities to become part of our accounting team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as an accounting technical expert for the Military and Civil Programs.
- Plan, make decisions, and provide technical assistance with respect to the most desirable accounting techniques to be employed in accomplishing objectives.
- Interpret the accounting policies of immediate and long-range activities.
- Assure sufficient flexibility in accounting policy to meet changing accounting needs as created by fluctuations in financial management practices or mission modifications
- Respond to inquiries of a non-routine or unusual nature.
- Participates in decision-making sessions with district managers on the appropriate processes and procedures necessary to accomplish mission requirements.
- Reviews, evaluates, and recommends improvements for the District accounting procedures, reports, and operational areas.
- Coordinate with all levels internal and external to the district as necessary to assure integrity of financial records and processes.
- Responsible for assuring conformity to regulatory guidance for the Civil, Military, and
- Revolving Fund accounting programs and the systems accounting function.
