The successful candidate will be responsible for performing accounting, financial analysis and reporting functions for the Management Company and all related entities. The Corporate Accountant role is ideal for someone early in their accounting career, excited to gain experience, and develop their real estate industry knowledge. The title for this role is commensurate with experience. The candidate will report directly to the Corporate Controller.
This position is within Synergy’s Corporate Accounting and Finance group. The successful candidate will interface with Synergy’s Property Management, Leasing, Construction, and Asset Management divisions on a weekly basis. The individual will work collaboratively to meet Synergy’s goals and objectives while adhering to the policies, procedures, and audit requirements that ensure continued growth and success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with the Corporate Accounting team in preparing Synergy’s monthly, quarterly and annual Financial Statements.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and adjusting journal entries.
- Prepare divisional reporting packages for all VPs across Synergy’s internal business divisions; ensuring compliance with the corporate budget and highlighting variances to plan as needed.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable on a weekly basis.
- Assist in preparing the annual Synergy Corporate budget.
- Work directly with the SVP of Operations and Controller in managing all aspects of the construction accounting function. Responsibilities include processing monthly construction management fees, reviewing capital and tenant improvement approval forms, setting up all portfolio construction jobs and providing internal reporting to the SVP of Construction and COO.
- With proper training, assist management in maintaining detailed Excel models to track compliance with tenant allowance jobs stipulated in lease agreements.
- Prepare funding requests with all relevant support on behalf of Synergy’s CRE assets to draw on construction loan facilities and interface with lenders as needed.
- Gain exposure to Synergy’s 3rd party construction business. Assist Controller across various tasks, including job setup, percentage of completion billing, profitability tracking and accounts receivable.
- Work with Corporate Finance team to recalculate all leasing commission deals across the portfolio. Interface with internal Leasing team and track payment compliance to all external brokers.
- Assist property accounting function with ad hoc projects.
- Perform other assigned duties and complete ad hoc projects, as required.
- We provide on-the-job training through one-on-one task specific instruction.
What we’re looking for in you:
- Degree in Accounting (4 Year)
- A solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting and debits & credits
- 1-4 years accounting or audit experience
- Working knowledge of project accounting preferred
- Partnership taxation experience a plus
- Prior Yardi, QuickBooks and MRI experience preferred
- Working knowledge of MS Excel
- Ability to communicate effectively with superiors, peers and vendors, as well as clients and other related parties
- Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, while meeting deadlines
- Quick study with the willingness to learn new systems and the eagerness to grow with the company
- High degree of personal integrity and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- A strong positive attitude, demonstrating the professionalism and flexibility needed to attain Company goals
